The Way of Jesus

Every Sunday we hear the teachings of Jesus. But do we take the time to really consider how those teachings shape our everyday lives? Our church encourages following eight spiritual practices called the Way of Jesus, which is found on our website. This year we invite everyone to gather one Thursday night a month to consider these spiritual practices in more depth.

We will begin each session with a simple supper at 6:00 pm. From 6:30 to 8:00, we will use engaging activities, short teachings and personal stories to explore each practice, discuss how it shapes our relationship with God and share practical ways to incorporate it into our life.

Please add these dates to your calendar. We encourage everyone to attend as many of these meetings as possible. Not only will we develop our own way of life with Jesus, but we will get to know each other on a deeper level, sharing challenges and encouragement.

  • October 1: Deep Listening and Discernment This will be an essential skill as we spend the year considering, noticing, reflecting on how to live with intention following the way of Jesus.
  • November 5: Gratitude During the season of thanksgiving, what is it like to live counting your blessings, and not just losses, living with an attitude of abundance rather than scarcity?
  • December 10: Story The Christmas and Advent seasons lend themselves to stories of family, of Jesus’ birth, of personal histories and hopes for the future.
  • January 7: Simplicity The beginning of the new year lends itself to a fresh approach to life. What does it look like to simplify my life?
  • February 4: Hospitality and Generosity Once we have grounded our own life, how can I give to others? Hospitality—the act of welcoming another. Generosity—sharing with others.
  • March 4: Reconciliation Tying the season of Lent to reconciliation in our lives is an opportunity to reflect in a more personal way. How does forgiveness fit in my life?
  • April 8: Prayer As we reflect on this past year, where has this brought us in our relationship with God? Have we drawn closer to Jesus or just been busy? Have we gone though the motions or have we stopped long enough to listen to the Spirit, sense Jesus walking beside us?
  • May 6: Celebration Let’s take time to celebrate as a church! At the annual meeting we say thank you to each other. But this celebration is for sharing how we have personally been changed, affected, challenged in our walk with Jesus.
