Image: Habakkuk Mausoleum, Tuyserkan, Hamadan Province, Iran. According to local tradition, Habakkuk was a guardian to Solomon’s Temple when he was captured by the Babylonians, and remained in Ecbatana (now Hamadan) after being freed by Cyrus the Great, where he died and was buried at this site. The surrounding shrine was built during the Seljuq Empire (11th-12th c.). Our readings this week include part of the Book of Habakkuk, its only appearance in our lectionary.
