Women’s Retreat

Each year, the women of St. Matthew’s and Holy Trinity Episcopal Churches have shared retreats, one in the spring and one in the fall. This year our fall retreat will be at St. Matthew’s on Saturday, October 4, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Rosa Uy will be doing her magic and making us lunch! Thank you Rosa! The retreat will conclude with a celebration of Eucharist at 3:00 pm, with the Rev. Gwen Powell presiding.

Our retreat topic is Women Spiritual Leaders: Prophets and Mystics. Our retreat presenter will be Susan Stabile, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Susan also is a highly experienced retreat leaser.

The spiritual leaders we will learn about include inspiring women from the distant past: Joan of Arc, Julian of Norwich, and Hildegard of Bingen. We also will learn from the stories and lives of women spiritual leaders of the twentieth century, including Etty Hillesum, Thea Bowman, and Simone Weil. We will have small group discussions to explore together what their legacies mean for us today.

We also will commemorate and honor Barbara Holmes (1943-2024), who was President Emerita at United Theological Seminary here in the Twin Cities, on the faculty of the Center for Action and Contemplation (along with Father Richard Rohr), and a teacher of Spiritual Direction. Her teaching often focused on African American spirituality, mysticism, cosmology, and culture.

Please join us! Details for signing up will be added soon.
