Renters’ Stories and the Rent Stabilization Initiative

Increasingly we see local and national news reports about the lack of affordable housing for the U.S.’s poorest communities. This hour-long Zoom session for St. Matthew’s led by Elaine Tarone and Elaine Eyre will dive deeper into the headlines about a rent stabilization initiative that will be on the ballot in Saint Paul in November.

The session will begin with a short reading and meditation on God’s call to care for the poor. We will then hear stories from neighbors who struggle to afford rental housing in Saint Paul. A short Powerpoint presentation from MICAH will follow with background and statistics on why the rent stabilization initiative is needed, and how it will work among low-income communities in Saint Paul to prevent substantial unexpected increases in rent. The session will conclude with a Q&A session will follow. We hope you can join us! For the Zoom link, please contact Lars at office@stmatthewsmn.org.
