In 2018 our own Dwight Zscheile was invited by Stephanie Spellers, Canon to Presiding Bishop Michael Curry for Evangelism, Reconciliation, and Care of Creation, to join a small group of national Episcopal Church leaders for a series of meetings in which they prayed and discerned how to help Episcopalians become more spiritually awake and centered on Jesus.
Dwight took a copy of St. Matthew’s Way of Jesus with him to their first meeting, as well as some of our pocket practice cards. They influenced what is now called the Way of Love, an Episcopal rule of life or spiritual road map consisting of the following seven spiritual practices: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest.
Beginning January 10 and continuing through March 21, the Sunday Faith Forum will study each of these practices through reading, discussion, and trying specific spiritual practices Monday through Saturday. The Faith Forum will be held over Zoom from 9:15 to 10:15.
I encourage you to join me and others from St. Matthew’s on a pilgrimage of spiritual practice and growth this Epiphany. It’s a good time to do this: Epiphany celebrates Christ’s manifestation or revelation to the world. Instead of being discouraged by COVID-19 restrictions and limitations, let’s focus our time and energy on growing spiritually! If you wish to participate please order the book Walking the Way of Love (edited by Courtney Cowart) and RSVP to Blair at rector@stmatthewsmn.org.
