Take a few minutes each day to engage in Lectio Divina, the holy or meditative reading of scripture.
- Reading: Begin with reading, stopping when a word or phrase really “shimmers,” becoming a vibrant manifestation of God for you. The intent is not to get to the end of the passage but to the bottom of it in God, to the word through which God touches you now, a word that becomes an icon for you.
- Reflection: Reflect on the possible spiritual meaning of the word for your life, and for our faith community’s life. Do not try to force meaning. The meaning may not be clear or instantly clear. God is at work in you at a deep precognitive level, and you do not have to understand what is happening. Your steady trust and openness to God is what is important.
- Prayer: Pray for your heart to open to God through this word, and for your will to open to God in responsive action, as may be called for.
- Still Presence: Move to a still presence in God’s spacious love. Seek rest in your identity in God, through and behind the images and feelings that may arise.
You can use one of the scripture readings from our Sunday services, a passage of scripture you feel drawn to, or a reading from the Daily Lectionary or list of scripture readings appointed for each day of the year, found in the back of the Book of Common Prayer.
